Rick Perry An American Nightmare

Every day there are stories and rumors bouncing all over the internet about this horror. A friend sent me this ad today and  I don't know what to believe about all of this, except that I find him a despicable man who should never even be considered as presidential material, let alone run for the office. He is shocking in his arrogance and stupidity and along with Michelle Bachmann offer up a double dose of embarrassment to our country. I worry and fear for our country.

There was also this story today.

Texas Governor's Gay Sex Scandal Covered in Austin paper, the  First Non-Internet Media Outlet to Report On It.

Berlin Express. 1948

I saw Berlin Express the other day at the Film Forum. I won 2 tickets in a trivia contest, and I gave away one of the tickets to someone waiting on the line to get in. He was so surprised by my gift. The first person I offered the ticket to, drew back from me as if I was pulling some kind of scam, silly woman. The film which was shown as part of the Robert Ryan retrospective is a good decent cold war thriller directed by Jacques Tourneur and that alone makes it worth seeing.Very influenced by the films of Hitchcock, most notably The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps, and in fact there is one scene that is a direct homage toThe 39 Steps. Full of twists and turns most of which you don't see coming, and no one is who you think they are, which can get a bit tiring. Ryan is not given much to do, he’s part of the good ensemble which includes Merle Oberon who was on the last legs of her film career. The really memorable thing about the film for me is the location photography by the great cinematographer Lucien Ballard who was married to Oberon at the time. Filmed in Frankfurt and Berlin the footage of the destruction and devastation of these two cities is reverting and shocking.

Childhood Sculpture

The earliest piece of existing sculpture that I did dates from 1958. I was very young. The piece is made of white interlocking plastic building blocks that children at a certain age always play with. For me it was more than just play. The piece has some similarities to my present concerns. It looks like a building or a structure or a ruin. I glued the individual blocks together. Even at this early stage I was concerned with making a permanent work of art. I found this lost and forgotten piece in 1971 at the home of my parents in a box of old things of mine that my mother had kept for all those years. The piece was broken into four sections, but it was not difficult to repair because the parts fitted together like a puzzle. I remember doing this piece but its a vague remembrance
