The Fall 2013

Gripping detective thriller yarn set in Belfast where a serial killer is on the loose. Cast in the lead is Gillian Anderson who by the way is simply superb as Stella Gibson a talented Detective Superintendent from the MET who is brought in by the Belfast police department to work on the case which they have botched up. There is no surprise as to who the killer is as we are shown his identify from the get go, and instead of a who done it, it’s a why done it. There are several side bar stories within the main plot, illicit romances, police corruption and spousal abuse but the main thrust of course is the catching of this very nasty killer of young women. It’s also creepy (I would give it a rating of 10 on my creepy meter) and scary. I was first drawn to Gillian Anderson after seeing her magnificent performance in Terence Davies’s fine adaptation of Edith Wharton’s “The House Of Mirth” which was the first time I saw her in anything since I was not a viewer of “The X-Files” and here in The Fall she gives another great performance that is nuanced and complex. Granted this is not for everyone, but if you like some spice in your t.v. viewing I tell you see this one.
