A Fuller Life. 2014

I just saw this deeply felt documentary on Sam Fuller at the Moma today. Made by his daughter Samantha it consists of film clips, stills, and remarkable archival footage filmed by Fuller when he was in the army and serving in Europe. Fuller is now regarded as one of the true great filmmakers but this was not always the case. I came to his films early in the 1970's loving his style (film brut) and his strong sense of word and image. The documentary uses celebrities (James Franco, Buck Henry, William Freidkin and others) reading excepts from Fuller's autobiography in his jam packed office-den along with as I said old photos and film clips. My only complaint about the film is that it's only 80 minutes which is not long enough to contain such a rich and long life. Highly recommended.
