Ruth Asawa The Museum Of Modern Art

Took myself up to the Moma to see the expansive and very beautiful retrospective of Ruth Asawa. I went to a member's preview so the galleries were not bulging at the seams with people but this will no doubt change when it opens to the public in a few days. It sprawls throughout the Moma's large 6th floor galleries and for those who are not familiar with her work, this should wake you the fuck up. The standouts the ones that made me dizzy with their beauty are her great wire sculptures that hang float and sit around in all their magnificent glory. These are great sculptures that will stay with you long after you see them. I was really looking forward to this show, and I was not disappointed in my jaw dropping love of these pieces. Ah Ruth you are a treasure and I wish I had known you. I didn't but happily I have your work that will stay with me forever. Not all was perfect for me, The works on paper generally just laid there for me, contour drawings of flowers don't do much for me, and a large gallery devoted to her teaching and public works was dull and would work as well in a few pages in her catalogs, which there are now many to choose from. Still this is a smashing show.
